Dress For 4th Of July!

I swore up and down I wouldn't do matchy matchy outfits when I had kids. SWORE. Then I had my 2nd daughter, and matching her with big sister made my heart happy. Now that I am 3 girls in, matching on Sundays and Holidays is my jam. Sometimes I can do the same outfit x3, and other times I coordinate. My top holidays for matching the girls are: Christmas, Easter, & 4th of July (in that order). I totally fell in LOVE with the Old Navy Plaid Poplin dress and this for the girls!

Real talk: we have a TON of hand me downs, so I try not to buy a ton of new stuff when I can. If you've collected things over the years with all your kiddos, there's no shame in coordinating what you already own. (click bolded text to see examples)

Some staples I always have on hand for my girls include :

  1. Chambray anything
  2. White or Navy Blue shirts/dresses
  3. Red Hair Accessories
  4. Denim shorts

Some staples you may or may not have for boys include:

  1. Navy or Red T-shirt
  2. khaki shorts
  3. navy or gray or red sweat shorts
  4. Chambray anything

If you have any combo of those items, you too can pull together a festive outfit for your kiddos. If you're still searching for easy & affordable 4th of July outfits, I have gathered my online favorites. You can shop the post down below the collage.

End of Season Sales \\ How to Buy ahead!

We just had our first taste of spring weather here in Houston! With warmer weather, comes end of season sales. If you wanted to sell clothes to your local thrift store, most are looking for spring/summer clothes to add to their inventory!

So my girl is 9 months old and has started to wear 12-18 mos clothing (Im both sad and happy), so If my calculations are correct (which hopefully they are), she will be wearing size 18-24 mos by Fall. If she has a sudden growth spurt, I will have a sale of all these clothes I'm about to share with you.

When I go shopping for pieces for baby girl's next size up, I stick to buying basics in colors that I know I'll still like in the next season. I'm pretty boring, so grays, olives, navy, & earth tones are my normal go to colors for her. The other half of this is buying patterns that are classic and timeless (so I'm saying no anything chevron- because I'm totally over it).

(I might have bought a LOT of gray)

(I might have bought a LOT of gray)

1. Basic Colors: Choose classic colors. Colors that can go with most anything that is released next season. My safe choice is gray. Gray leggings can go with so many fun shirts, jackets, and dresses (and they don't seem as dirty as white).

2. Transitional Styles: Choose styles that can transition from fall to winter. I love the 3/4 length sleeve dress. Once winter hits I can add a jacket or sweater over it to make it warmer. In Texas, light layers is all the rage.

3. Don't go overboard: I tell this to myself all the time. I put back a cable knit sweater on the sale rack because I knew that I didn't love it. When you buy basics on sale, you can get the in season stuff you are excited about and mix and match.

One thing I learned from buying before baby was born was fancy clothes aren't necessary. Jersey knit is your friend for your crawler/toddler! I love that I found all these play clothes on sale at Gap.

Confession: Those marled sweats and plain gray leggings are repeat purchases. I have bought those button leggings in 0-3 mos, 6-12 mos, and 18-24 mos. They get worn the most, go with pretty much everything we own, and they don't get stretched out & saggy. The marled sweats were our everyday pant this winter at home.

DRESSES: I didn't realize until after baby girl was here that dresses really are the cutest on walkers. So as little bit is growing and reaching milestones like pulling up! (see below)

Anyways, those dresses I'm obsessing over! I can't wait to dress a little walker with fun light layers and sweet shoes or boots! And that Red Sweater Dress was a steal! Baby Boden find for $7 at Kid2Kid- yes please! And the buttons have navy gingham. I already am dreaming up Holiday outfits with those dresses! The denim & gray striped dress has fall written all over them.

Be on the lookout in the fall/winter for outfits styled with these pieces!
